Slovakia’s government is considering a reduced VAT rate from the standard 20% rate to a 10% reduced rate in order to boost tourism and the spa industry. If the rate is approved, it will come into effect on 1 January 2019. The Slovakia government stated that the reduction in the VAT rate will support the country’s development and increase employment. This has been confirmed by the Slovak Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHRS).

The AHRS referenced experiences from other European countries where lower VAT rates strengthens job creation, promotes salary growth and brings new investments in terms of tourism in the country, and looks forward to convincing the Slovakian government to reduce the VAT rate.
