On 14 November 2018, negotiators of the European Commission and the United Kingdom reached a deal on the terms of the Treaty on European Union's article 50 Withdrawal Agreement. The Agreement contains a transitional period during which the European Union will treat the United Kingdom as if it were a Member State (with certain procedural exceptions). The transitional period will end on 31 December 2020; however, the Agreement also sets out a possibility for extending the transition period.
